The Assistant Manager, Venue Marketing, will support Artscape’s key strategic goals to strengthen our social enterprise and serve more people and communities through continued and expanded marketing outreach to businesses, individuals, and organizations to support APEV’s revenue targets.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Sales & Business Development, the Assistant Manager, Marketing, will be a key player in three priority elements of Artscape’s social enterprise event business:  1) assisting with the development and execution of a marketing strategy for APEV; 2) providing marketing research and proactively identifying opportunities to increase the sales pipeline; 3) strengthening awareness of APEV’s impact and value

Indirect Staff: Sales Coordinators


1 – Assist in Development and Execution of Annual Marketing Strategy for APEV:

  • Work within the parameters of the marketing budget to track campaign expenditures, complete purchase orders, monitor expenses and flag potential budgetary concerns
  • Create and manage social media content, calendars and channels
  • Support the development of venue sales materials, including website content and client-facing digital and print collateral for all venues
  • Research and evaluate marketing opportunities and make recommendations to the Senior Manager, Sales and Business Development for marketing activities for consideration in the annual marketing plan
  • Coordinate advertising bookings, artwork delivery and payment of invoices
  • Work with event operations to identify opportunities to gather event photography; work with photographers to obtain license permissions on photos for print and web marketing
  • Maintain and expand APEV’s catalogue of event photography for all venues, including proper documentation of image permissions
  • Lead strategy, planning and execution of internal marketing events, such as annual Industry Night caterer showcase, and venue open house tours
  • Analyze data and report on the results of marketing, advertising and social media campaigns
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities (AODA) and sound health and safety, human rights and inclusion regulations and practices

2 – Provide Marketing Research and Proactively Identify Opportunities to Increase the Sales Pipeline:

  • Along with Senior Manager, vet and qualify inbound event sponsorship opportunities to leverage value exchange and co-marketing with external event partners
  • Demonstrate knowledge as a product expert on all Artscape venues and initiatives in order to effectively create marketing copy and messaging that resonates with target audiences
  • Identify new, innovative income generation and sponsorship opportunities that support Artscape’s mandate and leverage social enterprise status and recommends qualified opportunities to the Senior Manager
  • Work collaboratively with Sales Coordinators to identify areas of opportunity for outreach, using both data from the CRM platform and the development of new prospect lists
  • Seek and vet opportunities for digital marketing and pipeline generation that provide excellent ROI
  • Work cross-departmentally to support revenue-generating initiatives across portfolio

3 – Strengthen Awareness of APEV Impact and Value:

  • Communicate effectively with hubs and shared services departments to ensure organizational awareness of APEV activities, to collaborate on cross-departmental projects and partnerships and to ensure that APEV marketing is in line with Artscape’s vision and brandWith a thorough understanding of the industry and competitive landscape, leverage sales data to identify new marketing ideas and opportunities to expand customer base across Artscape’s portfolio of venues
  • Represent Artscape at tradeshows and events to champion Artscape Event Venues, increase brand recognition, identify new prospects and expand customer base Keep up-to-date on landscape of the events industry in the GTA, seek networking opportunities and attend events for industry professionals
  • Maintain up-to-date database of competitors in GTA, including, where possible, event sales collateral and details
  • Maintain status with associations and social enterprise sector organizations, such as Buy Social Canada, through membership and ongoing discourse

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma and experience in digital marketing, communications, sales & marketing, non-profit management, business administration or related field is an asset
  • At least three years’ experience in B2B or B2C marketing with demonstrated track record in supporting sales goals
  • Exceptional customer service skills rooted in a love for problem solving and relationship building
  • Demonstrated administrative, financial and computer skills; tracking and meeting annual budgets
  • Communications: an ability to connect with community stakeholders and establish positive and productive ongoing relationships
  • Experience in writing marketing and communications copy for web, social media and print
  • Familiarity with communications, public relations and social media planning and evaluation of campaigns and initiatives
  • Excellent organizational and administrative abilities and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines, multitask and prioritize, with superb attention to detail
  • Experience in the event industry and/or with multi-use venues is an asset
  • Ability to work occasional weekend or evening hours

Technical Skills:

  • Experience managing social media and knowledgeable about social media advertising, including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest
  • Familiar with Google AdWords and Analytics
  • Experience in or demonstrated aptitude in the use of marketing and communication systems, such as website management (Artscape uses WordPress); email and list management, and design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience with photography a strong asset
  • Experience using Salesforce a strong asset; alternatively experience with other Customer Relationship Management tools and software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
