Running from September 18-29, the Propeller Art Gallery located at Artscape Triangle Lofts will be exhibiting a group show featuring comic art and political cartoons by Michael Zaharuk and the Union Art Service.
The Union Art Service is a co-operative of progressive political cartoonists and graphic artists operating since 1977, who illustrate and comment on issues such as unemployment, pay equity, the environment, workplace health and safety, and labour issues. Operating on a subscription model, members of the co-operative distribute political cartoons, graphics and flash animations to trade organizations and progressive publications on a monthly basis.
One such member and feature artist of the show, Michael Zaharuk has had his work feature in publications such as The Chicago Tribune, Governing Magazine, The Houston Press, The Progressive, The Toronto Star, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, among other publications. He currently teaches Illustrative Activism at OCADU and Design and Storyboarding and Illustration at George Brown College.
Those with an avid interest in this artistic genre are invited to meet the artists on Sunday, September 28, 2019 from 2pm-4pm. For more information about upcoming exhibitions and calls for submissions, please visit Propeller Gallery.
