The RBC Launchpad Music Entrepreneurship program kicked off in early January of this year. From producers to singer-songwriters, DJs to composers, the two cohorts are packed with incredible talent. Meet three rising DJs from the RBC Launchpad Music Entrepreneurship program: GIMMEMAR, DJ Sonja Online and Bamzy.

Martina (better known by her stage name GIMMEMAR) is a DJ, Singer, Songwriter and producer born in Serbia, raised in Vancouver and currently based in Toronto. While DJ’ing full time, making music, or creating visuals, Gimmemar is always creating and living life through expression with art. Her music is a fusion of R&B, soul, jazz, hip hop and electronic which blends layers of genuine lyrics and melodies creating a whimsical feeling. After releasing her debut EP in 2017 followed by a few singles, she is preparing for the release of her 2nd project due in early 2020 which features some of her own production and a more refined sound and direction.

Sonja is an experimental artist and DJ based in Toronto, Ontario. Her work revolves around hardware music made with modular synthesizers, improvisation, temporary, fleeting noise, and found sounds. Her DJ sets focus on deep house, bass, and techno. In addition, she runs Biblioteka Records, an independent record label focused on instrumental electronic music that aims to highlight the work of women and members of the LGBTQI+ community. She is also a music writer, the editor of the Toronto issue of Dive Music Magazine, the Technical Director of the Toronto New Wave Festival, and a 2019 Polaris Prize juror.

Afolabi, who also goes by the stage name “Bamzy” is a multitalented musical artist, DJ and music producer. He has a debut album called “IÌLÙ” which got released in November 2019 and it’s also available on all streaming platforms. Afolabi is a person who has an eclectic taste of music ranging from Jazz, to Afrobeats, Afropop. Hip-Hop, R&B, Soul and more.
