Reporting to the Director of Hub Services, the Residential Community Manager is responsible for the day to day oversight of multiple predominantly residential tenant and owner communities within Artscape’s portfolio. The primary function of the role includes community and tenant engagement with oversight over the Artscape Value Exchange Program to achieve our strategic commitment of building strong and vibrant neighbourhoods. The Residential Community Manager fosters the conditions for artists and creative organizations to thrive through strong relationship management, community engagement and a passion for the mandate of Artscape.

The communities that are included within the scope of this role are:

Artscape Bayside Lofts: Located in the East Bayfront District, this collection of 80 affordable rental units for artists and their families is situated within a larger condo development built to LEED Gold standards.
Artscape West Queen West: The first legally zoned artist live/work building in Toronto, offering 22 artist-led households safe, secure and affordable rental spaces, plus a garden space along Crawford Street. Artscape West Queen West is also home to 5 work/commercial studios and a not-for-profit public art gallery.
Artscape Triangle Lofts: Artscape Triangle Lofts includes 48 owner-occupied live/work units that were purchased through Artscape’s innovative affordable ownership program, 20 live/work units owned by Artscape and rented as affordable housing and Propeller Gallery, a member-run gallery.
Parkdale Arts & Cultural Centre: Home to community-based non-profit organizations, an artist-run gallery and 9 private artist residents, this mixed-use facility is a fixture in the Parkdale neighbourhood.
Artscape Lofts at PACE: Opened in 2016, this collection of 14 owner-occupied affordable homeownership units, within the PACE condominium building in downtown Toronto, is designated for artists and their families.
Artscape Lofts at 210 Simcoe: Opened in 2015, this collection of 3 owner-occupied affordable homeownership units and 2 affordable rental units, within the 210 Simcoe condominium building in downtown Toronto, is designated for artists and their families.
Artscape Lofts at Waterworks: Artscape Lofts at Waterworks includes 15 affordable homeownership units for artists and their families within an innovative mixed-use development that revitalizes a historic building in downtown Toronto.


This list of responsibilities is not comprehensive and the employee may be asked to perform tasks not listed here from time to time. These additional tasks are considered part of the employee’s responsibilities and the employee cannot decline these tasks without valid reasoning acceptable to the organization.

  • Community Engagement & Programming
    • Design and manage community engagement activities and programming, with oversight on related budgets in consultation with the Director, Hub Services and in collaboration with other Artscape communities and the broader team.
    • Oversight over the Artscape Value Exchange Program, including program design, reporting requirements and cross-departmental collaboration to identify opportunies for engagement
    • Proactively seeking out funding opportunities and compatible external partnerships to support programming that aligns with community needs
    • Develop and implement community stewardship plans, which include strategies for community engagement and shared governance of Artscape communities
    • Convene meetings with tenants and owners, local partners, hub-related committees and property management services, community groups, and others as required
    • Facilitate the distribution and promotion of community updates, events, and tenant/owner initiatives in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team
  • Relationship Management & Administration
    • Foster authentic relationships with tenants and owners, the community, arts and cultural groups, project and program partners, stakeholder groups and committees
    • Lead communications and support for tenants and owners at select Artscape communities online and in person, including reporting, complaint resolution, outreach and other activities as required
    • Work closely with the Facilities & Community Services team, to ensure compliance with the Residential Tenancies Act, Housing Services Act, Condominium Act and Commercial Tenancies Act as well as Artscape’s policies and procedures
    • Monitoring and supporting the swift resolution of maintenance issues, in collaboration with Building Operators
    • Manage day to day administrative operations, support the development of policies and procedures to ensure a safe and supportive environment for tenants and owners, in collaboration with Building Operator and the Community Services team
    • Other duties as required


Must-have Skills:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in community engagement, arts administration, programming and/or property management
  • Demonstrated strength in fostering diversity, equity and inclusion in community building, an understanding of the mandate of the applicable Artscape communities and their context in the revitalization of their respective neighborhoods
  • Displayed leadership in leveraging the power of arts and culture to support Artscape’s mission in creative placemaking and community impact
  • Experience managing arts, culture and/or mentorship programs, with a strong understanding of operations, programming and event complexities
  • Experience in affordable housing considered an asset
