
Let There Be Art: Zahra Siddiqui and Diversity in Creativity
Toronto based photographer, mixed media artist and Artscape Daniels Launchpad Curator Zahra Siddiqui picked up the camera 10 years ago. Her archive of portraits, captured throughout her travels and community engagement, have been focused on celebrating the faces of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour, 2SLGBTQ+… and those who live along the margins of society.
Siddiqui evolved from photography to the use of mixed media, experimenting with acrylic paint, textiles and adornments as a way to create more layers of impact to her portraits – with the ultimate goal of creating a timestamp of her work for future generations.
This Women’s History Month, we wanted to celebrate her accomplishments – work that has been recognized around the city and showcased across the GTA, and Artscape Daniels Launchpad. Check out some of Zahra’s work below:
