INTRODUCTION TO WOODWORKING: CHARCUTERIE BOARD

In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the craft of woodworking and to the woodworking facilities at Artscape Daniels Launchpad. Using a wide variety of hand, power, and machine tools, each participant will transform rough hardwood lumber into a finished and food safe serving platter measuring about 6-inches wide by 20-inches long. Throughout this process, participants will learn about the properties of different wood species, how to select material, how to safely and effectively operate woodworking tools and machinery, and how to finish and care for an heirloom wooden object.
Requirements: Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which includes safety glasses, hearing protection, and a particulate dust mask or respirator. There is a $25.00 material fee included in the workshop price that covers the materials you will need for in-class sample making.
*Please be aware that attending this workshop (201) does not give you open access to the Studio. To obtain unrestricted access to a studio you must complete the hosted ‘Safety Training and Orientation session (101)’ for that Studio.

Brenton began his woodworking career as an apprentice at Akroyd Furniture in Toronto’s Distillery District. Since then, he’s opened his own woodworking studios in both Stratford and Toronto. He enjoys experimenting with different forms, materials, and new manufacturing technologies; and his current work draws influence from mid-century modern, contemporary Japanese, and Scandinavian furniture.
