Old World Shoes Photo Exhibit by Henry Vanderspek
December 2, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pmFree
Old World Shoes – a documentary project by Henry VanderSpek that celebrates the hard-working owners of independent shoe and shoe repair stores of Toronto. Come meet the artist and the real people featured in this unique view into the life of small business owners in Toronto.
With Toronto in a constant state of redevelopment, and long-time local businesses closing down along the way, Henry was moved to stop and celebrate the local heroes who help keep the community moving. Small shoe and shoe repair stores attracted him the most.
Old World Shoes features portraits of 14 shoe store owners along with interview excerpts sharing touching insights, gained from their many decades of serving customers and local communities. Links to short videos will also be available, so attendees can hear store owners’ voices first hand and even possibly meet them in person!
Doors will open at 7:00 PM with a presentation by Henry at 7:30 PM. Doors close at 9:00 PM.
Vaccine Passports: will be checked and masks are required for the opening receptions.
Exhibit Dates: The exhibit will be available for viewing from December 2 to January 3, 2022. Only masks are required when visiting the exhibit outside of opening night.
